What feminism does for men

Although the word “feminism” can be deceiving, many of the goals of the movement result in better lives for men as well. Because all we want is equality, much pressure can be taken off of men when women are given equal treatment.

To start off, one of the main goals of feminism is to get rid of gender roles. Not too long ago, the problem was forcing women to be caretakers while men had jobs. The same women who were fighting to get equal job opportunities also believed that men should be allowed to stay home and take care of their families. It’s not about forcing anyone to go against their gender role; it’s about having the choice. Gender-based restrictions make no sense in this context, so getting rid of them only opens up opportunity.

The idea of gender roles can only be detrimental to everybody. Any intersectional feminist will stand up against unfair male double standards right alongside those for females. We don’t like when we are expected to be quiet and submissive, so we don’t believe that men should have to be tough and hide their emotions either. When anti-feminists enforce unfair expectations of women, they are in turn slowing progress for setting aside all double standards– some that they may even face themselves. That’s not a world we, and probably many others, want to live in!

Lucky for anti-feminists, the struggles that men deal with will largely go away if true equality is reached… which can only happen if they stop trying to push us down! I will gladly go into more detail on other examples of topics if requested. In this article I tried to speak about feminism generally, but I have personal opinions on many subtopics in this category that I can speak to from my own point of view. Let me know!
