Non-female Feminists

This post is mainly for people other than women, feminists or not. First of all, hi! I’m glad you made it here even though this website is a bit female-directed. I would never want to make it seem like feminism is strictly for girls, because that is very counterproductive. In fact, the work that male and non-binary people do can be considered some of the most important work for the movement! Once everyone else becomes more accustomed to lifting up women, equal treatment becomes the norm (which is the whole point!) instead of what appears to be a less-important group trying to get radical change for their own benefit.

I should point out that I am fully aware there are a great amount of men who do stand up for women’s rights and fight alongside us. And out of those who don’t, there are plenty of respectful men who treat all other genders as equal. I am in no way disputing the goodwill of those people. However when men become defensive about the behaviors of their gender as a whole because they themselves do not purposefully take part in sexist actions, then arises a problem. There is data and evidence to back up the fact that women face more challenges than men, simply because of their gender. Denying this is detrimental to the feminist cause, adding to the problem. I would give a pat on the back to the men who can accept the reality without taking it personally, but it is kind of the bare minimum. While I do understand how one would be hesitant to admit they are part of a group (very generalized) that is staying in power by pushing others down, there is no shame in acknowledging that and doing your part to make a change.

To see what exactly you can do to become an ally and help diminish female-oppressing culture (that you probably don’t even realize is bad!), check out the What can I do? page. If you would like me to give more granular examples of the culture to withdraw from, contact me and I will go into specifics.
